David has brought Australia's cliff gaff right to our shores using his imagination along the way. This gaff operates on the principle of placing the main line inside the conduit which is then secured in a stainless steel guide to stabilize the gaff. Absent in the diagram is a rope which is tethered to the stainless steel loop. Once the main line is secured as mentioned earlier the gaff is lowered and when it makes contact with the fish the claws open up and surround the fish after which a gentle tug is given and the rope is then brought as the fish is now impaled by one, two or even three gaff points.

The materials needed for this rig are as follows:-

  1. Two 3 ft, 1/4 inch stainless steel rods - 3 @18 inches required
  2. One 3 inch conduit connector
  3. 3 large swivels to keep the gaff arms stable within the conduit
  4. One 9 inch stainless steel wire rated at 150 lbs bent and configured as per diagram
  5. One piece of 1/2 inch rubber tubing placed on outside of conduit to keep gaffs slightly apart
  6. Length of rope to be determined by angler consisting of a snap swivel to attach to gaff

The club is at a lost for words to describe the diligence, pain staking time not to mention the sweat and hours that you have taken to deliver your proof of concept which will most definitely bring up those 'big boys'.

Excellent work and congrats on producing such a cool gaff, it will definitely be an asset to the club. Again, by virtue of this excellent device he has named it the 'DC claw grabber'.
