David is constantly looking at ways to improve his fishing techniques. The following diagram shows a typical squid skirt which is commonly used with a dead ballyhoo by fisherman offshore to land several pelagic species such as:- king fish, dolphin, barracuda and several others.
David has adapted this same type of rig to target coastal fish during his land based fishing activities. His major successes have come by way of floating this rig with a live pilchard under a balloon. the amount of fish caught using this method would put a smile on any anglers face. This technique / rig is always in his tackle box and because it has proven to be so good he has even placed his initials on it - called the 'DC squid' rig.
The materials needed for this rig are as follows:-
- One or two hooks of your choice
- Leader wire at least 2 feet long
- Glow bead
- Three beads that are covered by the squid skirt
- One swivel
Congrats David, the club recommends that all anglers adopt the DC squid rig as part of their arsenal.
